THE EDGY YET FEMININE WORLD OF CANDELA
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanFrills and lace, sequins and satin all have that feminine appeal as we view the Fall 2013 Collection from Candela, a line with an international flair in the world of fashion.
The scene was set at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week almost like mannequins stepping right out of a painting layered with pretty shoes and pointed-toe boots as painted canvas palettes surrounded the models in an artistic maze of fashion madness. The designer behind the line, Gabriela Perezutti, has once again incorporated her love for the equestrian world with traditional gaucho influences giving them a more modern edgy element inspired by urban life. Throwing this particular look together seems almost effortless in a society where we try so hard to look beautiful.
It seems like only yesterday that Candela began with the launch of a t-shirt line in Brooklyn and now look how Candela has grown in leaps and bounds with a highly successful ready-t0-wear line of clothing and even footwear.
The statement that reverberates with the collection is “To her the name of father was another name for love” – Fanny Fern. Pulled right from the pages of your living room, the looks were an ingenious way to combine casual and dress all into one.
An oversized knit cardigan was placed over a romantic blush ruffled dress. Who would have thought that denim and chiffon would blend so well together? A hand-beaded and jeweled mesh mini skirt was more subdued with high socks and a loose-fitting sweatshirt. Knit caps were dressed up with diamond brooches.
The two outfits that left a lasting impression upon me were the silk blush deco evening gown that was all sequins and pleating in the low-cut back and black tiered slightly floral embroidered sheer skirt, delicate and dreamy, made more daring and bold with a leather motorcycle jacket.
Candela gives us something to ponder as the most gorgeous peach and black beaded mesh dress was finished with high socks and oxfords. Different generations, different eras meshed into one.
A knit sweater snapped us out of the Victorian era aas the sweater was lowered to reveal a ruffled peach gown that was prom-ready.
This was a collection that can be worn by any generation and whether you are a teenager, mom or career professional, you will find a look that is befitting of your personality and mood for any particular day.
