The OSCAR® Awards is one of the biggest evenings in entertainment seen round the world.  Events have been taking place leading up to the dazzling evening.

Just this month from February 2nd through the 14th, at The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City, “Oscar Docs, 1955-2002:American Stories:”, highlighted Oscar-winning and nominated short and feature-length documentary films that explored the history, culture and politics of the United States.  It was a thrill to have filmmakers present to share their experiences.

What sets this event apart that takes place on Sunday, February 24, 2013, is the Oscar Experience that is shared not just in Hollywood, but in 45 cities across the United States.

On OSCAR® Sunday, February 24, 2013, charities in 45 cities bring that exciting Oscar experience to life as they invite fans to viewing parties in cities near you.  The evening benefits the Academy’s grassroots outreach program allowing charities across the country to host official Oscar parties while raising money for local worthwhile causes.  Last year, more than $3.1 million was raised in 49 cities.  To put it in greater perspective, since the inception in 1994, Oscar Night® America has brought in more than $36.6 million.  All of the funds have stayed in the community in which they have been raised.

Rather than watching the televised awards on the couch at home, fans can attend these parties and watch the 85th Annual Academy Awards on the big screen in Hollywood-style glamour including the rolling out of the Red Carpet for local celebrities which will be integrated into the celebration.  “Predict-the-winners” contests give everyone a chance to participate.

There is so much more to the Academy than meets the eye.  Academy CEO Dawn Hudson states, ” The Oscar Experience:Benefits is a natural extension of the philanthropic work the Academy does year-round.  We are thrilled to share a part of the Oscar experience with movie fans nationwide while supporting charities across the country.”
