Employment Situation for November
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
It’s hard to believe that 2011 is coming to a close. On December 2nd, November Employment results were released.
As was expected, progress is still slow but the addition of jobs is improving and the pace still begs for enrichment in the current economy.
Overall, payroll employment rose by 120,000 but the private sector increased by 140,000 jobs. For the past 21 months, the private sector has been adding jobs steadily. (2.9 million jobs)
The good news is the unemployment is at an all-time low at 8.6%. The net effect was a decline in the labor force (-315,000) and employment growth of 278,000.
Perhaps continuation of the President’s American Jobs Act will place us on the right track for recovery. There are still 13.3 million Americans out of work and 43% have been unemployed for six months or more. We must continue to extend and support the payroll tax cut for workers and small businesses.

Here is how it breaks down:
Retail Trade jobs = +50,000
Professional and Business Services = +33,000
Leisure and Hospitality = +22,000
Health Care and Social Assistance = +19,000
Manufacturing = +2,000
Temporary Help Market increased for the 5th month in a row = +22,300
Government Jobs = (-20,000)
Construction = (-12,000)
