Once again the fashion industry was bubbling over in New York City on Wednesday evening, January 9, 2013.

It was an evening of formidable fashion as prominent and inspirational designer, Marc Jacobs, took to the stage as part of a question/answer session with the award-winning creator of New York Fashion Week, Fern Mallis.   The event was ‘Fashion Icons Talks with Marc Jacobs’ which was hosted by MARTINI Sparkling Wines.

The event took place at the 92nd Street Y with over 900 guests in attendance.  Some of the biggest and brightest names in the industry were socializing at the scene.  Socialite Emma Snowdon Jones, legendary Stan Herman, fashion designer Geoffrey Banks, featured buyer for Saks Fifth Avenue on “Fashion Star” Terron Schaefer, CEO of Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Steven Kolb, fashion editor and stylist Jenny Capitain, architect Scott Bromley and CNN Correspondent Alina Cho were all excited to be part of the evening festivities.

Jacobs is very driven and has made it to the top of the design ladder.  He lives by a ‘no regrets’ type of attitude.  He refers to himself as “perfectly imperfect” although his wrist is tattooed with the word ‘perfect’.  We learned that  he doesn’t consider himself rich, splits his residence between the United States and Paris six months out of the year and simply loves attention.

Mallis left no stone unturned in this candid discussion as she posed questions of Jacobs’ previous substance abuse, numerous stints in rehab, some of his insecurities and thoughts on marriage and the early death of his father.  Jacobs seemed totally at ease and answered each question with candor.  Jacobs has been the youngest professional to win the Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent in addition to the Council of Fashion Designers of America Award and Womenswear Designer of the Year Award multiple times over the length of his career.  So how does he feel about his successes?  “I don’t believe in awards,” states Jacobs.  His reason to enjoy the award ceremonies is for the sole purpose to be able to thank everyone that made his success possible with the platform of being in front of such a widespread audience to do that.

Marc Jacobs holds the prestigious position of creative director at Louis Vuitton and also oversees his own signature design company.  He thanks his significant other, Robert Duffy, who stands behind his ambitious work morals.  Jacobs has an unconventional and unpredictable style, quite magically projecting mystique and “imperfections” over an overtly sexy look.  His grunge collection was perhaps his most liberating and memorable but every design that Marc Jacobs puts forth is an instant success with the masses and he has inspired many a contemporary and emerging designer these days.

After the interview portion of the evening, it was on to celebrating with friends and Jacobs was seen chatting with VIPs.  Guests enjoyed complimentary sips by MARTINI Sparkling Wines including mini bottles of MARTINI rose’, asti and prosecco.  One of the greatest gifts of the evening was the magnum bedazzled bottle of MARTINI Asti with the designer’s name in silver crystals.  Marc Jacobs was all smiles as he posed for a picture with his special bottle next to Fern Mallis.
