‘Fashion Is Your Business’  first debuted at the FD Mobile Conference , an executive summit on mobile marketing and mobile commerce strategies. The setting was perfect for this introduction.

The podcast is recorded weekly with the Fashion Media Center of Manufacture New York (MNY), and this 50-minute program is the only podcast that covers the business side of fashion.  Co-hosted by Rob Sanchez (Manufacture New York), Pavan Bahl (OS Fashion), and Marc Raco (Monkey Radio), the show features news, interviews, and discussion of new ventures in fashion and technology.

Sanchez, who serves as Chief Strategy Officer for the Brooklyn innovation hub Manufacture New York, was quoted as saying that the show fills a previously unexplored gap in fashion broadcasting, namely, the “edge of industry” in fashion. The wave of the future is right now.

“We’re focused on who’s getting funded and what’s coming up in fashion and technology,” explains Sanchez.  “We often talk about wearables and cutting edge technologies that have caught our attention.  But we’re equally curious about fashion start-ups that have managed to raise major capital.  We like to investigate all the claims of ‘the next big thing’ and judge their merits.”

Raco, seasoned in the business of podcasting, has spent a good amount of time in a career that spans both comedy and filmmaking. To make this particular podcast more enticing to a broader audience, he says he does not approach the show from a fashion perspective. “I see the team as talking about business and technology stories within the framework of the fashion world.  We just happen to wrap that up in what I think is a pretty funny package of guys joking and kidding around.  The benefit is that it makes the show more appealing and palatable than many other ‘finance-oriented’ programs.”

As one of the show’s co-hosts, Sanchez agrees with Raco that the program’s success is derived in part from a blunt, unrestrained style of commentary.  But he sees the partnership with FD Mobile as a perfect fit for their interest in “technology meets fashion.”

“Our broadcasts have been successful in large part because they appeal to both domestic fashion enthusiasts and curious investors,” says Sanchez.  “We’ve been keeping an ear to the ground, and our listeners seem to appreciate the variety of stories we turn up each week.”
