Film Finds Meaning in Miami

Calling all sun worshippers, film buffs and fashion fanatics……The magical destination of Miami Beach is getting ready to welcome an elite group to its shores, those with a common love of film, fashion and art.
It only happens once a year, and, when it does, the results are provocative, outstanding and simply memorable. Miami Fashion Film Festival, a production of Fashion Inspires More, is proud to announce that tickets are now available for this year’s festival which takes place from September 20th through September 22nd, 2018. There is no better way to prove how influential fashion and art can be on our society. Films with roots in countries around the globe are shown for captivated audiences. Each one tells a story with passion and fiery emotion. Proceeds from the film festival go to benefit Fashion Inspires More, a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding fashion dialogue through art, technology and education.
Not only will those interested in attending be able to experience riveting cinematography from talented artists of their trade, but, one-on-one interviews with featured talent and filmmakers will also be a large part of the total excitement. Get ready to participate in workshops, panel discussions, and, at the end of a stimulating day, enjoy the parties and non-stop nightlife that Miami offers its international visitors.
This year’s featured films speak the true meaning of fashion at its finest. One of the most iconic fashion editors of all time is Andre Leon Talley who is at the center of “The Gospel According To Andre”. Andre Leon Talley has garnered the respect of the fashion industry and has defined the boundaries of style time after time. He is a trendsetter in his own right and ranks right up there with Anna Wintour. This film takes its audience on a most emotional journey into the life of Andre, from his youngest days growing up in the segregated South to becoming the master of style and one of the greatest fashion curators ever to enter the industry. Weaving together a wealth of archival footage from the most glamorous moments in fashion history with André’s poignant reflections on his life and career, The Gospel According to André is a cinematic monument to one of the most unique figures of 20th Century American culture. The director is Kate Novack and the film will debut on Friday, September 21st at 7:00 p.m.
Another great designer who left this world too soon, having a gleaming career, was Alexander McQueen. Now we get a glimpse into his tortured yet extremely creative life with the premiere of ‘McQUEEN’, directed by Ian Bonhote and Peter Ettedgui. Through the magic of film, watch exclusive interviews with some of his closest friends and family. See recovered archives and relive McQueen’s successes, get a look at exquisite visuals set to music and get a greater insight into the life of Alexander McQueen, fashion visionary. This film will debut on Friday, September 21st at 9:00 p.m.
On Saturday, September 22nd at 6:30 p.m., see just how women have reshaped society in ‘A Perfect 14’. In addition to seeing this empowering and enlightening film, take part in a live discussion, hosted by Dionne Dean featuring the filmmakers, Giovanna Morales Vargas and James Earl O’Brien. ‘A Perfect 14’ explores the world of plus size models fighting to reshape the fashion industry and the beauty standards of society. The film follows the journeys of models Elly Mayday (Canada), Kerosene Deluxe (Netherlands) and Laura Wells (Australia) as they struggle against our culture’s distorted perception of body image. A Perfect 14 also questions the fashion industry leaders and pioneers in the world’s meccas and holds them accountable for their responsibility in size-based segregation.
Get your fill of film viewing with an enticing list of Fashion Film Shorts that will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 beginning at 2:50 p.m. and going all the way to 6:10 p.m. Titles include Aramine, Cosmic Suicide, I Am an Individual, Start the Buzz and Tomboy.
Miami Fashion Film Festival has chosen the best of the best for screening in 2018. This always highly anticipated event promises to deliver and engage the local community in conversation. Through the power of the festival, examine the difficult challenges that women, youth and professionals face within the fashion and film industry around the world. See how these challenges are confronted and overcome by the filmmakers themselves.
Take a mystical trip into the world of fashion by purchasing your tickets in advance of the crowds. Films will be shown at the Miami Beach Cinematheque, home of the Miami Beach Film Society and located at 1130 Washington Avenue in Miami Beach.
