As we are quickly approaching the end of another year, this quarter had some memorable events that we can’t let slip by without mentioning. November 7th was a big evening at Carnegie Hall in New York City. It was Glamour Magazine ‘Women of the Year’ gala.

This is the night when women are proud to be represented by the best of the best, those that are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in or to give of themselves for the sake of others. They never listen to the word no. This year gave us a wide variety of winners from pop stars to world activists to a former First Lady to a comedian to a past Glamour Editor.

The night was full of shining stars such as Jessica Alba in black sparkles, Kerry Washington in a strapless lemon chiffon Marchesa gown and Emma Stone in a gold Grecian gown by Lanvin. The presenters were as honorary as the distinguished winners. With women such as Barbara Walters, Diane Sawyer, Anita Hill and Condoleezza Rice, the evening was on fire with power and punch.

The awards for 2011 went to some very special women who left an impressive impact on the world. To usher in the evening, New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg did the honors.

Winners were presented their awards in front of a large audience of supporters.
Jennifer Lopez – A go-getter with a don’t stop me now attitude

Tory Burch – Dreams have no limits, make them happen

Arianna Huffington – Believes in making your destiny, focus on your talents instead of looking over your shoulder

Laura-Barbara-Jenna Bush – Every woman’s life is full of potential

Chelsea Handler – The better one woman does, the better all women do

Withelma “T” Ortiz-Macey – Painful memories can be turned around to make a positive difference for others

Gabrielle Giffords – There is no better quality than strength and perseverance

Lea Michele – Never be afraid to be your own person

Cindy Sherman – Originality speaks louder than words

Esraa Abdel Fattah – The world can be positively changed. The genie cannot be put back into the bottle.

The night’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Gloria Steinem, an independent woman who has been the pioneer in speaking out. She has led the women’s liberation movement and is the Martin Luther King of this movement. She still influences at 77 years old and sums it up appropriately, “We are the women that our parents warned us about and we are proud. What you want in the future, build it into the day”.

The evening was perfectly personified in a couple of sentences.
“A woman visualizes her success and expresses her emotions. You don’t have to be a President or a Princess to make a difference in this world”.
