The first annual Golden Globe Awards were presented in 1944 at 20th Century Fox. Best Actress was Jennifer Jones and Best Actor was Paul Lukas. In the beginning, the physical award was a scroll. In 1951, the division of award categories into drama and musical/comedy was introduced. The year 1958 marked the first year the awards were telecast in Los Angeles where the event was held. In 1964, the first national telecast of the Golden Globes ran as part of the ‘Andy Williams’ show. In 1983, the ‘New Star of the Year’ Male and Female categories were eliminated. In 2007, the awards ceremony didn’t air because of ongoing negotiations between the actor and writer guilds. An NBC press conference was broadcast to announce the winners.

One of the greatest honors of the evening is the receipt of the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award. The winner is chosen annually by the HFPA Board of Directors based on which talented actor or actress has made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment. Past winners include Anthony Hopkins, Harrison Ford and Barbara Streisand. This year the award will be bestowed on the distinguished Robert De Niro.

The evening promises to be one of exhilaration and thrills. Fashion and style will grace the red carpet prior to the award ceremony. We will give you an update on that front in the coming week. Stay tuned and check back on our website for the details.
