KORS IS CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’

During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week  Fall 2014 held in New York City from February 6 – February 13, 2014, top designer strayed away from the overwhelming crowds of Lincoln Center and favored a more untraditional location to debut his Fall 2014 Collection.  The fashion presentation took place on Varick Street in Spring Studios.  It really doesn’t matter where Kors holds his shows because loyal fans and followers would go to the ends of the earth to be able to see what  continues to create each season.
As the studio began to fill up, the front row almost looked like an Oscar lineup with celebrities eager to take a peek at the styles that they can savor for the coming season.  Michael Douglas was the lucky male surrounded by beautiful women.  Blake Lively wore a Fawn double breasted coat from the Michael Kors Transseason 2014 collection, indigo short sleeve jacket, raffia embroidered indigo pencil skirt and bandeau with a peanut leather belt all from the Michael Kors Spring 2014 collection. Rose Byrne wore a Fawn coat from the Michael Kors Fall 2014 collection, indigo and white dot blouse and skirt, nutmeg leather belt, indigo Crista shoes, and a nutmeg python Stanwyck frame clutch all from the Michael Kors Spring 2014 collection.  Freida Pinto wore a Hemp suede coat, hemp and hyacinth cutout dress, nutmeg shoes and nutmeg python Miranda clutch all from the Michael Kors Spring 2014 collection. Naya Rivera wore an Optic white python top with an indigo pencil skirt both from the Michael Kors Spring 2014 collection.
Almost every high-fashion magazine was represented at the show and Aerin Lauder of Estee Lauder fame looked calm and relaxed as she was waiting for the show to begin. Even fellow designers came out to see what had to offer in the creativity chapter.
However, the intention was the same across the venue, to get our fill of , the designer that we are all pleasantly addicted to when it comes to style. It was easy to relate to the theme of the Fall 2014 Collection.  With the winter snow on the way and an unfortunately dismal day outside, it was a welcome diversion to become at one with ‘California Dreamin’. Far from the cold, the California coast was the main inspiration. The mountains meet the oceans and the oceans meet the shore in a most stylish manner. When asked about the collection, responded,” a hybrid â a little bit of the kind of easiness that you find in northern California in places like Big Sur where you just kind of … unplug, mixed with something that’s very polished and urbane and very big city.”
One of the reasons for massive popularity is his deep and abiding respect for women of all ages and the belief that life is meant to be lived to its fullest at any age. Â He designs with every age in mind, gearing his designs towards outfits that can easily be worn again and again time after time.
This collation was Big Sur meets Big City. Â Although we have fallen in love with Kors’ career clothing, there was a hint of laid back ease in many of the pieces shown. Â Plenty of romance struck at our hearts and our souls through soft, fluid skirts, dresses and blouses. Â The woman holds the same power as the man and this concept was brought to the runway with boys tailoring. A bit of a switch in position gave us more simplicity for evening while artisanal embellishment highlighted the day dressing.
Hemlines were driven downwards, sometimes using fringe as a way to start a much different trend and lean coats will give warmth and coziness from the oncoming seasonal chill. Layering, heavy sweaters and subtle signs of the peasant influence were pleasing trends to gaze upon.
While the hues may have seemed somewhat subdued, the colors of grey, black, brown and taupe beckoned to catch our undivided  attention.
Kors seemed to really concentrate on the fabrics that he used this season. Â Smudged Glen plaids, tweeds, python, liquid charmeuse, diaphanous chiffons, lush fil coupe’ along with mohair and alpaca made the pieces even more desirable. Just as much emphasis was placed on the accessories as he placed on the actual clothing. Â Crushable clutches and totes, the low-slung shoulder bag, the rugged clog and the chunky city sandal rounded out the extensive collection of the season.
Guests walked away quite satisfied that they received everything they had come for and more. First chore on the list was to make room in their closets for another season of  gorgeous separates from the Fall Collection 2014.
