LADY GAGA – THE WOMAN BEHIND THE MUSIC

LADY GAGA – THE WOMAN BEHIND THE MUSIC By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

My curiosity with Lady Gaga and the woman behind the music drew me to a CBS ’60 Minutes’ segment featured on Sunday, June 5th. Experienced journalist and television personality, Anderson Cooper, interviewed the provocative and successful Lady Gaga. It certainly gave me a greater understanding of the popular performance artist.

Lady Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in New York. She attended an all-girls Catholic school and began studying piano at the young age of 4. She started at New York University but dropped out to become a star and fulfill her dreams.

Now 25 years old, Lady Gaga is the ‘Master of the Art of Fame’. She is the most talked about entertainer in the world with seven #1 hit songs in the last three years. Her first album, ‘The Fame’, released in 2008 with well-known songs ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’, catapulted her into the spotlight where she has continued to maintain her stardom ever since. Her newest album, ‘Born This Way’, was released on May 23rd this year and has currently sold over 1.1 million copies. Her biggest songs are dance songs.

Lady Gaga is a relentless performer who has been touring consistently for the past three years. She is always in front of the camera but ironically you never see the same look twice. The over-the-top outfits are all part of her performance persona. She is down-to-earth and candid in interviews and yet at the same time she is a woman full of mystery.

Taking on a new name freed her to become the superstar she is and peeled away all her insecurities. Gaga’s concept on life is refreshing and interesting. We are all born superstars and you just have to apply yourself. Her fans rise to her message and that message reaches the audiences in an overwhelming way. Those that relate to her are people disconnected from society who have a deep devotion to her. Lady Gaga sees herself in her fans.

Lady Gaga feels that she has an understanding of what the public desires. People who have it all will ultimately lose it all at some point and then climb back up the ladder of fame. Sadly, everybody wants to see the decay of the superstar and how they make it back to fame.

Lady Gaga is a creation of her own-she is a classic trained pianist who either writes or co-writes all her songs. She has studied many other artists but is definitely her own person. She is a humanitarian who collected $500,000 in 2010 for the Haiti Earthquake Reconstruction Relief Fund and actively contributes in the fight against HIV and AIDS in a joint project with MAC Cosmetics.

The label is clear. Pop star, Performance Artist, True Academic of Music and Style are all synonymous with Lady Gaga. We are eager to see what she will do next and what kind of a fashion statement she will make. She is herself but appears in many different faces. Her passion is her music and that popular music will allow her to maintain her current star status.
