This past Labor Day, September 5th, 2010, marked the 43rd anniversary of New York City’s largest cultural festivities.
The morning kicked off with a breakfast and press conference held in honor of the West Indian American Day Parade.

The weather was cooperative and Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor David Paterson were among the special Honoraries of the day.

Rocky Helsop and Pure Fame Media-FR TV captured the moment. Mayor Bloomberg was ready for a celebration but appropriately mentioned not to forget the people of Haiti and continue to raise money in support of rebuilding Haiti.

Governor Paterson was confronted with candid questions on the economy and the possibility of the Republicans sweeping Congress in mid-term elections. In response, the Governor replied that President Obama has inherited difficulties and we are in the throes of a historic long-term recession. We need to adapt to culture to get back to economic recovery and understand the gravity of the situation.

Once the press conference concluded, the festivities of the West Indian American Day Parade began and moved along the Eastern Parkway. What better way to begin a parade than with the resonating sounds of the steel drums. There were plenty of colorful and theatrical costumes as well as native foods for sampling.

Labor Day 2010 was ready for a day full of excitement and fun and good spirits for all.
