Meet the GOP Candidates for 2012 By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
Before long, Presidential primary elections will begin to take shape and the candidates are now positioning themselves for the difficult road ahead.
Texas governor, Rick Perry, the longest-serving governor in Texas history, has entered the race. He is focusing on getting more Americans working again to stimulate the economy.

John Huntsman, former Utah governor, made his bid for the White House at Liberty State Park in New Jersey. He has worked under Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. Some of his well-known platforms include backing civil unions for gays and cap-and-trade energy legislation.

Michele Bachmann, Minnesota congresswoman, has been gaining ground rapidly. She is a Tea Party favorite. She exudes confidence and believes that “running for President was the right thing for her to do.”

Former Pennsylvania senator, Rick Santorum, will be focusing on social issues. He is in strong opposition of gay marriage and abortion. He takes a strong stance on U.S. invasion of Iraq and Social Security. He definitely is no stranger to controversy.

A former Presidential candidate and Massachusetts governor, Mitt Romney, has joined the race once again. He has continuously been in the public eye and is known for being the President of the organizing committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Another governor, Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, promises the truth to his constituents. As governor, he focused on balancing the budget without raising taxes.

The citizen’s candidate is Herman Cain. Cain is an Atlanta radio host and former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza. If he is elected, we will all be able to say our nation is free at last.

Making his second Presidential run is Texas congressman Ron Paul. He was vehemently opposed to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and is ready to build the momentum in 2012 with his libertarian ideas.

Another familiar face is Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House. He has been busy on the campaign trail and is a prolific writer and political thinker.

Gary Johnson is a former New Mexico governor and low-tax libertarian. He is in support of the legalization of marijuana. He regularly participates and is very active in triathlons. Johnson is known for his frequent vetoing.

There are many candidates willing to take on this large challenge to be the one to run our country next. Many are wondering if Sarah Palin might introduce her entrance into the race soon. Only time will tell.
