The past is coming back to the present this fall on ABC. The 1970’s private eye series, Charlie’s Angels, can once again be seen as a weekly television series with a new set of Angels given a modern edge. Never fear, the glamour and suspense that you grew to know and love will continue in 2011-2012.
Solving the crime in their own special way and always having success in catching the bad guy was part of the charm of Angels Farah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith.
Once the series ended, Charlie’s Angels The Movie, hit the big screen casting Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu with loads of action, adventure and drama rolled into one.
Beginning in September, the Angels’ roles will be remolded as three gorgeous private investigators reporting to the mysterious Charlie who we will continue to hear but never see. Robert Wagner is said to be cast as the voice of Charlie.
Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital) will be the tough ex-cop and martial arts expert. Rachel Taylor (Transformers) will play Abby, the youngest Angel and by far the sassiest. She is a talented con-artist and Krav Maga expert. Her shady past includes privileged daughter of a notorious Wall Street crook. The third Angel will be played by Minka Kelly (Fright Night Lights, Parenthood). Her role is still being developed but she might be the roughest of the bunch with a past as a U.S. Marine weapons expert trained in all forms of hand-to-hand combat. Taking care of his three ladies, Bosley will be back as well but no word on who will play the character.
Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg were the executive production team behind the highly successful original series but this time around it will be Al Gough and Miles Millan who have been writing the show’s pilot episode and who previously worked together on Smallville.
September always begins the new fall television lineup. Let’s hope that the combination of beauty, brains and brawn can secure an auspicious slot for this Charlie’s Angels remake for at least a few seasons.
