Just as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2014 ended on a somewhat chilly note in New York City, serious and cultural savvy fashion enthusiasts rushed off to yet another fashion week with an international flair and the flourishing beauty of Spanish fashion amongst the panoramic portrait of Madrid, Spain.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid marked its 59th year of tradition with bright hues, rich textiles and innovative styles for men and women. From February 14th through February 18, 2014, IFEMA presented the creations of 40 extremely talented fashion designers.
This is where trends were set and attention was drawn to a new and exciting season filled with gorgeous pieces. Collections shown were to celebrate Autumn/Winter 2014/15. Not only did attendees have the privilege of seeing new looks, but Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid coincided with MOMAD METROPOLIS which is also international in scope and considered a fashion trade show. This is the most important multi-sector fashion event on the Iberian Peninsula.
Stars were also born at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid as 21 emerging designers introduced their collections at the Samsung EGO showroom. After the presentations, the general public had the chance to purchase some of the outfits that they had become partial to after seeing them under the lights. This is something that you rarely find at many fashion weeks. Most are closed to the general public. Fashion Week in Madrid appreciatively enjoys the support of the private sector as well as strong levels of involvement and commitment from sponsoring brands. This is the perfect platform to also make attendees aware of all the services that they have to offer.
Then there were the fashions themselves and the designers behind the heart-stopping looks. One of the most talked about highlights of the week was the return of Davidelfin. Ion Fiz, Etxeberria and Juana Martin presented solo shows. One of the amazing endings of the week was the double fur fashion show that is still being talked about in stylish circles.
Many of the well-established designers are members of the Fashion Designers Association of Spain and therefore, they are highly respected and admired for their work.
Opening the week of extraordinary style was AA by Arzuaga. Clean lines in neutral shades were chic and desirable to even the most classic of women. The cape was the outerwear which adorned dresses and they were made of varying fabrics as well as a mixture of colors. A forest green leather dress was deep-rooted in the glorious gift of splendor. Geometric patterns were thrown in here and there. Folds and ruffles wound ever so softly around the figure.
Carlos Diez and Maria Escote’ were part of a spectacular ending to a most praised week of fashion. Diez gave us cutout silhouettes worn by men and women in similar fashion for that casual lifestyle. Comfortable and striking could best describe his collection with plenty of smiley faces from years in the past along with floor-length raincoats and extra shiny leggings for a fun and fantastic look.
Maria, on the other hand, managed to glorify the Wild, Wild West with cowboy hats as the big accessory of the presentation. Spots in the most popular black and white, blossoming floral patterns, fire and brimstone and sultry fringe mixed expression for a lasting impression by a captivated audience.
Who could forget the rainbow-colored furs of a magnificent ending? It also culminated with the traditional bride given a touch of modernity, all part of Jesus Lorenzo’s creative mind.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid Autumn/Winter 2014/15 came to a close on a promising note as the young and eager designers that are the faces of fashion in the future were anxious to make their mark on the runway.
As quickly as it came, it was gone, making us contemplate and hungry for another week of Spanish fashion for which we will wait patiently.
