New York City Marathon

New York City Marathon Results 2010: The New York City Marathon 2010 was held today, and NYC Marathon results are now in.

For the men, 37 year old Gebre Gebremariam of Ethiopa finished first with a time of two hours, eighteen minutes and fourteen seconds.

He finished over a minute ahead of Emmanuel Mutai of Kenya, who came in second place with a time of 2:09:18.

Third-place finisher was Moses Kigen Kipkosgei of Kenya, whose time was 2:10:39.

For the women, Edna Kiplagat of Kenya came in first place.

American distance runner Shalane Flanagan, running in her very first marathon, came in second place, twenty seconds after Kiplagat. It was the best finish for an American woman in 20 years.

Third-place finisher was Mary Jepkosgei Keitany of Kenya, at 2:29:01.

But perhaps the most-applauded runner was Chilean miner Edison Pena, who received a noisy ovation from the crowd when he crossed the finish line in under five hours, draped in Chile’s flag.New York City Marathon Results 2010

Pena said that he ran six or seven miles each day, while trapped underground: “I was running to show that I wasn’t just waiting around. I was running to be an active participant in my own salvation.”New York City Marathon Results 2010
