NOMINATIONS FOR THE 2013 SAG AWARDS ANNOUNCED
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanThere is quite a stir going on in the world of cinema and television as the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® are right around the corner being held on Sunday, January 27, 2013.
Some of the biggest and brightest stars in the industry will be recognized for their outstanding accomplishments.
On December 12, 2012 in Los Angeles at the Pacific Design Center’s SilverScreen Theater, nominees for outstanding performance in 2012 in five film and eight primetime television categories as well as nominees for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles were announced. These nominees were presented by SAG Social Media Ambassador, Busy Philipps and ‘Private Practice’ actor, Taye Diggs.
SAG Awards Committee Vice Chair, Daryl Anderson and Committee member, Woody Schultz, announced the stunt ensemble nominees.
What gives this ceremony which is simulcast live in January its unique flair is the fact that the awards are chosen by actors’ peers. A television and film panel made up of 2100 randomly selected union members from across the country chose this year’s nominees. That is why receiving this award is even more of a distinguished honor.
The final voting information goes out on December 31, 2012. All the eligible SAG-AFTRA membership across the United States made up of approximately 100,000 actors, are then encouraged to vote on all categories. Most all voting is done online with paper ballots only being given out upon request. The final voting comes to an end on January 25, 2013. Results are tabulated and sealed until the night of the ceremony, January 27, 2013, when the winners names are revealed in front of the world.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards® Post-Awards Gala which benefits the Screen Actors Guild Foundation will once again be hosted by People Magazine and the Entertainment Industry Foundation for the 17th consecutive year.
In January you will also have the opportunity to participate in the SAG Awards Auction from the 3rd to the 13th for the Bleacher auction and then the Ceremony auction from January 21st to the 31st. There can be no better cause than the Screen Actors Guild Foundation which makes childrens’ literacy programs possible. In addition, the auction will support foundation programs providing emergency relief to union members in economic distress, emergency funds for members with catastrophic illnesses, video and audio preservation of the creative legacy of union members, scholarships for performers and their children, valuable casting seminars and professional workshops.
