Opening Night – Tribeca Film Festival By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
The countdown to the Tribeca Film Festival is now underway. Audiences are in for an electrifying surprise on opening night, April 20th. Screenwriter and Film Director, Cameron Crowe, has captured the making of a legend album in a documentary specifically made for American Express sponsored ‘Tribeca Film Festival’.

All-time greats Elton John and Leon Russell collaborated in 2009 to bring fans the new album called, ‘The Union’. The album was produced by T-Bone Burnett, a respected name in the industry. Now Cameron Crowe brings this synergy of artistic and creative work to the big screen in an emotional and practical sort of approach. The film has cameo appearances from Stevie Nicks and producer Don Was. Those who have been an integral part of Elton’s song productions also appear. They are Bernie Taupin, Neil Young, Brian Wilson, legendary R&B organist Booker T. Jones and steel guitarist Robert Randolph.
Cameron Crowe is no stranger to Elton John’s music. He has followed him and explored the musician’s life in two of his previous works, ‘Almost Famous’ and ‘Singles’.
Tribeca fans will be thrilled to learn that since this year marks the 10th edition of the Festival, opening night will have a free, outdoor screening. You might say it is a way to say ‘Thank You’ to New York for supporting the festival over the years. After the film screening at the North Cove at the World Financial Plaza, Elton John will graciously perform live for the audience. What a spectacular gift to New York, filmgoers and fans alike. Elton’s songs span a number of generations and all are truly classic in their appeal as well as definitely works of art. There is no better way to open the ‘Tribeca Film Festival’.
