By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanSo many designers aspire to gain the same level of prestige that chic Oscar de la Renta holds with fans and followers alike.
Year and year, collection after collection, de la Renta continues to impress with elegance and enthusiasm. Most recently in New York City, the Resort 2013 Runway Show was a refreshing take on clothing that will stand out for any occasion. The great attribute of this collection was the wearability of the pieces. The clothing is not just for the high-fashion customer anymore. Florals adorned many of the dresses, jackets and tops giving them a fresh appeal. Embellished gowns and strapless pant suits looked rich and culturally aesthetic. The colors were bursting with brightness in deep blues, carnation, evergreen, black and white, purple and a mixture of fall colors.
Oscar de la Renta took the hottest trends and made them into something absolutely magical. Fabrics of silk, taffeta, wool and lace were ever so effeminate.
Gingham prints are back in style combined with solids in full skirts and wrap dresses. Some of the clothing reflected color blocking and multi-dimensional design, an old yet new concept for the upcoming season. Shorts were made to look more formal worn with tailored suit jackets. White shirts took on a classic influence worn with tweed suits. Lace was luxurious with an air of femininity. Ruffles raised the bar and a bit of the 1920’s flapper influence was evident in daytime dressing.
The charm of sparkles gave finesse’ to short dresses and full-length gowns.
Shoulders were a big focus with cap sleeves accentuating that portion of the body.
Grecian influence in gathered gowns of gold looked statuesque on tall, slender models.
Feathers and frills were even more dainty on short minis and long flowing gowns.
Full skirts were reminiscent of an era past and a constant reminder of the elegance of Oscar de la Renta and his creative talent that shines in all of his collections.
Pencil skirts paired with flared jackets or rounded sleeve shirts always remain a most memorable favorite with a hint of ballet grace. The sock hop came alive again with the sparkle-tee worn with full petticoat skirt.
One tuxedo suit of bold green graced the runway for that menswear influence.
Sexy silhouettes and opulent cocktail dresses rounded out the collection. They hugged the hour-glass figures of the glowing models. Gowns of tulle could easily make a woman turn into a fairytale princess. There is nothing more elegant than an Oscar de la Renta couture gown. A woman is simply buried with beauty as she slips into the mystical dress.
Accessories are just as important as the clothing itself and crucial to the full image. Chunky stone necklaces, thick bracelets and long, hanging earrings were outfit stealers. Streaks of pink, orange, green and purples made for an unusual accessory in updo hair styles. Large glistening jeweled necklaces were the perfect accompaniment for evening gowns. Clutches were carried for the quick lipstick touch up.
As usual, Oscar de la Renta Resort Collection 2013 was shown to a full house and the clothing is sure to be seen in places from the French Riviera to the fashion capital of New York City to the tree-lined streets of Paris.
