Why not go for the present that is a bit out of the ordinary? Today, Monday, November 12, 2012, marked the launch of a new collection of luxury scarves for Holiday 2012/Resort 2013. They will please everyone on your list.
The designer has a host of outstanding credits to her name which include celebrated philanthropist, entrepreneur and artist. Sheila Johnson brings her creativity to the forefront. She is probably best-known as co-founder of BET Networks and film producer for movies such as “The Butler” with an all-star cast which includes Robin Williams, Oprah Winfrey, Forest Whitaker, John Cusack and Jane Fonda. The film is set to be released in theaters next year. Johnson has also been honored by one of the best design schools in the nation, Parsons School of Design.
This collection takes inspiration from nature and the world around us. Johnson has a passion for photography which contributed to the creation of this collection. How ingenious to turn your photography into wearable art and affordable luxury. The vivid and bright colors will peek your curiosity and drop you right into the scene as caught on film. The joy, peace and beauty of each photographed scene or object is digitally imprinted on to each scarf. Each one reveals its own riveting story unveiling connections we have to one another and the world around us. The collection was given the label of ‘Interludes’ with feminine and romantic names of Solace, Joy!, Elina and Felicity.
Johnson shot some of these photos in Uganda, Rwanda and Haiti as part of her travels with Donna Karan after the devastating earthquake of 2010. It was a most memorable trip.
This collection of opulent scarves is made in Prado, Italy just outside of Florence and retails for $475 each. The scarves are 100% modal, a natural yarn that results in a smooth, supple, color-fast fabric and each is produced on an old-fashioned wooden loom, digitally printed and then skillfully cut and fringed by hand.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the charity known as Lady Salamanders, the first national all-women Street Soccer USA team, whose goal is to end homelessness through sports. www.streetsoccerusa.org. This organization is doing such wonderful work and they are even focusing on assisting those impacted the hardest by Hurricane Sandy just as they were rebuilding their lives.
As you wrap yourself in this rich fabric, it comes to life and becomes your accessory to add a bit of abstract to your outfit. Lose yourself in imagination and beauty. Sheila Johnson wants to reach out far and wide to let others less fortunate enjoy some of the rewards of success as they overcome their challenges to feel like the triumphant champions they were meant to be.
Who wouldn’t want such a grandiose gift? These scarves are now available online at www.sheilajohnsoncollection.com and in specialty boutiques in New York City. Later they will also be available through trunk shows at select Neiman Marcus locations. Be the first to purchase one this year.
