RISE FOR RELIEF
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanIn times of distress, we feel solace in uniting to help those in need.
Some of the hardest hit areas of New York and New Jersey are still reeling from Hurricane Sandy and trying to pick up the pieces one by one.
Our hearts go out to the people of Staten Island, Coney Island, Hoboken and perhaps one of the most tenacious communities of all, Belle Harbor. Belle Harbor has had its share of tragedy but seems to keep the faith putting the gift of life into perspective for the rest of us. These strong-willed people were hit by the loss of many of their residents on 9/11 (police and firefighters) and then 2 months later, in 2001, a jumbo jet crashed into the community killing some of its own on the ground. Now Hurricane Sandy has taken her swing but she will not be able to claim victory so easily.
At times like this, it is important to realize that the fashion and entertainment world are desperately trying to assist getting those in need back on their feet.
Tomorrow, November 14, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. EST, one of the greatest New York based designers of all time, Norma Kamali, will hold a Hurricane Sandy Relief Sale with a wide variety of some of her most elegant yet edgy fashions all available for under $100 with just announced 25% off all styles. You will have the opportunity to purchase online at www.normakamali.com or at the store located at 11 W. 56th Street in New York City.
For all sales made, 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the ‘Mayor’s Fund to Advance NYC’ which facilitates innovative public-private partnerships throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Such great things have been started with generous donations so far. Over $32 million has been raised for the City’s emergency response needs and long-term restoration efforts. Water, hygiene items and clothing have been provided. Now Norma Kamali is coming forth to get her fans and fashion followers involved as well. Don’t miss out on this opportunity at some of Norma Kamali’s finest pieces.
Also recently announced, a concert will be held in Flushing, New York on Saturday, November 17, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. EST at Taiwan Center. This is the 3rd annual “Hello Taiwan Rocks!” concert as part of the Hurricane Sandy Relief efforts. There will be an exciting lineup of musicians and rock bands along with a Taiwan Night Market Theme to kick off the start of the Thanksgiving celebration. Enjoy four live bands as you try some Taiwanese market snacks and sip on Taiwan beer. Rock the night away with fun and fantasy as the concert proceeds go to the Hurricane Sandy Relief effort and will be accepted by FDNY firefighter representatives. www.AsianInNY/Taiwan Rocks!
It is all about coming together and raising funds with a fury to brighten the world of those whose lives have been dampened and it is time to raise their spirits and get the word out that they are not alone!
