ROAD TO ULTRA: A LONG WAY FROM HOME
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanOne of the hottest events to hit the music scene in Miami is the upcoming Ultra Music Festival which will take place for not just one but two historic weekends in warm and inviting Miami, Florida, the city of dreams.
This is an event of international stature and for six consecutive years from 2005 to 2011, it won ‘Best Music Event’ by the International Dance Music Awards, ‘Best International Dance Music Festival’ by the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2008 and ‘Best Festival’ by the Village Voice Media New Times for 5 years from 2005-2009. Some of the biggest names in the electronic dance world make their way to the spot where it all takes place, Bayfront Park, beginning March 15-17, 2013 and then again from March 22-24, 2013.
In 2012, Madonna made a guest appearance so you never know what surprises could be in store for you.
Last year a major documentary feature was made about the musical festival called “CAN U FEEL IT” and was shown in over 500 theaters across the nation giving anxious viewers a glimpse into the world of electronic music.
This year marks the 15th anniversary as ULTRA becomes the first major EDM festival worldwide to expand to two action-packed weekends. Weekend 2 is already sold out and Weekend 1 is on the way to becoming a sell-out very soon. Ticket sales have taken place in 77 countries. ULTRA is a global brand that takes place in not only Miami but also in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Ibiza and Korea and in July of this year it will make its way to Croatia for the very first time.
As we approach the arrival of the biggest outdoor electronic music festival, this year promises to bring fans the most diverse lineup yet. Not only will there be established well-known artists that mold this industry, but, emerging and creatively inspired newcomers are ready to wow the audience.
The magically electrifying Carl Cox brings his legend sounds to Bayfront Park hosting such techno greats as Cassy, Loco Dice, Luciano, Fatboy Slim and more.
You won’t want to miss Swedish House Mafia’s final performance which is set to take place on both weekends. So far there are some unbelievable acts set to get the fans moving to the beat. Afrojack, Deadmaus, Avicii, Eric Prydz, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Benny Benassi, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Sander Van Doorn and Markus Schulz are just some of the great names with so many more on the lineup. You never know what mega-artist will make a guest appearance.
This will be the 10th year that Ultra Music Festival proudly welcomes the return of “The ECO Village“. The mission of this particular area is exposure and understanding of a number of non-profit organizations and charities. Interactive booths will give you an informative outlook on the world today. The Village will be open throughout the two weekends.
Without the support of the City of Miami Commission, Mayor, Bayfront Park Management Trust and the Fire and Police Departments, the event would not be entirely possible.
To take part in one of the most unique experiences of your life in one of the most tropical and culturally adept cities in the world, spend a day or spend a weekend in this electronic dance world and you won’t want to step back into reality.
