SALUTE THE FGI RISING FASHION STARS

It is time to rise to the occasion as we get ready to salute those chosen to compete for the 17th Annual Rising Star Awards.  On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at Cipriani at 110 East 42nd Street in New York City, there will be a celebration of the outstanding accomplishments of emerging talents with a strong sense of creativity and a vision for what fashion trends are moving towards in the future.

It is both refreshing and inspiring to recognize fashion talent that is blossoming, the future of our fashion industry, as well as highlighting contributions in business innovation.  On January 13, 2014, the nominees were announced by one of the most prevalent non-profit organizations in the fashion world today.  Fashion Group International  was proud to name the nominees.  FGI  are experts and strongly comprised of over 5000 members within the apparel, accessories, beauty and home sectors.  They are the energetic source that feeds the fashion industry and gives it a way to grow in leaps and bounds.  Through their platform, they promote educational programs all about fashion by awarding scholarships, establishing internships and programs and even going as far as providing career counseling opportunities in the United States and abroad.

It is a talented group of young stars receiving the Rising Star nominations this year.  The categories are Accessories, Fine Jewelry, Beauty Corporate, Men’s Apparel, Beauty Entrepreneur, Retail, Home/Interior Design, Women’s Apparel and one final award that goes to the Business Innovator of the Year. The Karen Harvey Business Innovator Award is presented to an emerging industry leader in recognition of groundbreaking business innovation within fashion, retail or beauty.

Rising Star

Frank Tell/Tanya Taylor/Charles Harbison

Women’s ready-to-wear category nominees are Marissa WebbFrank TellNary ManivongTanya TaylorVengsarkar Budhu of Gavaskar, Julie andJason Alkire of Haus Alkire, Charles Harbison of Harbison, and Giovanna Randall of Honor.  Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss, Ian VelardiErnest Sabine of Ernest Alexander, and Matthew OrleyAlex Orley, and Samantha Florence of Orley were named in the menswear category, according to WWD.

Retailers who will be competing in that category include Rachel Shechtman of Story in Chelsea, Katie Finnegan and Erica Bell of the free digital shopping tool Hukkster, and fashionista turned cake guru Charlotte Neuville of The Fashion Chef.

The accessories category has some outstanding talent as well including Neil Blumenthal and David Gilboa of Warby Parker, Edmundo CastilloDeborah Sawaf of Thalé Blanc, Melanie Lopez of Roman & Sunstone,Michelle ValeAnnette and Phoebe Stephens of Anndra Neen, and Annie Jaroszewicz of Equipt for Play. Lisa Black, Joseph Yushuvayev of Casa Reale,  Margery Hirschey, plus Amaia and Yolanda Torrubia of Torrubia & Torrubia are up for the award in jewelry.

Beauty and fragrance honors announced with recognition in the corporate category , Eileen Ahasic of Estée Lauder, Jean Michel Karam of IOMA Paris, Ruhi Patil of International Flavors & Fragrances, and Sara Zucker of Nars. As for the entrepreneurs in this category? Brian Wolk and Claude Morais of Ruffian Beauty, Nathan Motylinski of Le Cherche Midi, Tony Perez and Meredith Waga of Belle Fleur, and Kelly Podorsek of Kelly & Jones are up for awards.

The home interiors award will either be Anna KarlinJon Call of Mr Call Designs, or Reinaldo Leandro and Ariel Ashe of Ashe + Leandro.

The Luncheon and Award Ceremony promises to be enlivening and motivating with the host for the ceremony being Simon Doonan, the Creative Ambassador-At-Large of New York-based retail giant, Barneys New York.  Lincoln Moore of Saks Fifth Avenue, Amy Astley of Teen Vogue, Steven Stolman of Scalamandré, Brooke Jaffe of Bloomingdale’s, Kara Ross, Hal Rubenstein, Leslie Blodgett, and Stephen Burrows will be presenting the awards. Large sponsors for the big gala are The Karen Harvey Consulting Group, Teen Vogue, Saks Fifth Avenue and Silver Lining LTD.

This afternoon of exhilaration is a perfect way to finish the month and glide into New York Fashion Week in February.   Good Luck goes out to all our finalists. They are all considered winners in our eyes.
