‘SHARE THE LOVE, JOIN THE FIGHT’

It’s time to share the love and join the fight. On May 1, 2013, a fervor was felt in the air as it was time to make New York City and the world aware that we must conquer blood cancer, once and for all.
Cancer has already claimed too many lives. It was an emotional day as it began at 10:00 a.m. on May 1, 2013, with the young yet vivacious Georgia May Jagger climbing the Empire State Building to illuminate the skyscraper in red and white colors and shine a light on the crucial need for bone marrow donors. Rolling Stone Mick Jagger’s youngest daughter has already gained stardom as a supermodel, the face of Just Cavalli for Her (a fragrance by Roberto Cavalli) and spokesmodel for Cosmetic brand, Rimmel.
She was joined by Katharina Harf, co-founder of Delete Blood Cancer and Michele Scannavini who is the CEO of Coty Inc., the largest sponsor of the next fund-raising event of the day, the 7th Annual Delete Blood Cancer Charity Gala.
As we look into the night sky on this evening, May 2, 2013, we will see the symbol of light displayed on the tall structure. It will continue until 2:00 a.m. on May 3, 2013 for the sole purpose of raising awareness of Delete Blood Cancer which is part of the world’s largest bone marrow donor center with over 3.5 million donors and 35,000 patients.
It was a gorgeous day overlooking the wide expanse of the bustling city. Georgia was thrilled to do her part for public awareness and is quoted as saying, “I want to inform people how simple it is to register as a bone marrow donor with Delete Blood Cancer and possibly save the life of a patient in need.”
Of course the glitz and the glamour came later in the evening as co-founder of the charity, Katharina Harf and celebrity designer, Nate Berkus, co-hosted the big charity gala at Cipriani Wall Street.
Seen on the Red Carpet were stars such as Katy Perry in a strapless Vera Wang blue baroque print fishtail gown that fit her like a glove. Performing for the rousing crowd was award-winning group, Lady Antebellum and the powerful voice of Jill Scott.

Generosity was sparkled throughout the ballroom as heavyweight boxer, Evander Holyfield and son, Polish model Anja Rubik, Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn, designer Derek Lam and model Coco Rocha took part in the festivities.
This courageous charity has gained widespread support in the fashion industry from designers such as Jimmy Choo and Calvin Klein. The entertainment industry also gets satisfaction by spreading the word. Rihanna, Eva Mendes, Kylie Minogue and Jennifer Lopez have all offered their support.
This year the gala chose to honor three women who signify the meaning of caring and generosity in so many unselfish ways. Vera Wang designed a t-shirt for the ‘Share The Love’ campaign. Leighton Meester was featured in the campaign giving the ad publicity in over 25 magazines. The whole concept of ‘Share The Love Join the Fight’ was created by bone marrow recipient, Kerri, who received a transplant four years ago from one of the charity’s German donors. The campaign went even further to give the t-shirt free with the purchase of $78 from the Vera Wang “Lovestruck” Fragrance Collection at Macy’s.
Another honoree of the evening was Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, co-founder and artistic director and EVP of OPI Products. Suzi developed a special line of colors for Delete Blood Cancer called ‘OPI Loves DKMS’. One year the nail polishes were part of the evening’s gift bag. This, in turn, caused quite a commotion at Vogue, Vanity Fair and Elle to name a few. This was another avenue to get the word out.
Taking the celebration down just a notch, reality was awakening as a family still looking for donors was featured in this segment. This is a stark reminder that no matter how far we have come, we still have far to go.
