The Fashions Of The Golden Globe Awards, By Hope Wilkos The South Florida Blogger. This past Sunday, January 16th, found celebrities at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California celebrating the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards. It was an evening of crystal chandeliers and champagne.
The fashions on the Red Carpet ranged from simple and elegant to eccentric and provocative. There were a few trends that were evident as the evening unfolded. The strapless gown or open back was the predominant style amongst the majority of the stars. Peach, pink, green and black were the popular colors with red taking a close second. Seductive slits down the legs revealed sparkling heels for an evening of play. The bright red lip with the neatly coiffed hair was definitely the favorite trend in hair and makeup.
Lets begin with the pastels.
Natalie Portman was simply glowing in a satiny strapless peachy pink gown with a crystal red Swarovski rose across the bodice. Lea Michele of the widely acclaimed television series ‘Glee’, was smiling from ear to ear in a peach strapless tiered Oscar De La Renta gown. Carrie Underwood always looks gorgeous and this evening was no exception. She was walking the Red Carpet in a sparkling nude strapless Badgley Mischka gown with a flowing train and carrying a silver clutch purse.
Emma Stone pulled off a classy look in a short sleeved Calvin Klein peach dress and accessorized the outfit with a Van Cleef and Arpels ring. Nicole Kidman carried herself with grace in a Prada cream sparkling one-shouldered gown finished off with a tiny belt with a bow. Sandra Bullock was sporting a new look with bangs and her dark hair contrasted her peach chiffon one-shouldered gown with a ruffled sleeve and diamonds throughout the dress. Our favorite ‘Gossip Girl’, Leighton Meester, looked very pretty in a high neck beige gown with puff sleeves and a slit down the middle to reveal glistening diamond shoes. Claire Danes was the epitomy of simple in a bright pink Calvin Klein halter gown with small train. The very feminine Milla Jovovich was stunning in the off the shoulder silver sparkling dress with criss cross bodice and flouncy bottom. Her figure handled the draping of the gown very well. Megan Fox’s beauty was unmatched in a baby pink Armani gown with sparkles and ribbons across the bodice and wide slit down the middle. Jennifer Lopez looked very festive in a Zuhair Murad spaghetti strap white gown with a sparkle wedding veil shawl top. Scarlett Johansson’s beauty was accented by her Ellie Saab beaded dress in blush color with a V neck and butterfly sleeves. Vanessa Williams was elegant in a white one-shouldered tight fitting sparkling gown with a snowflake leaf design on the shoulder and she accessorized the look with matching earrings.
The dark sapphire greens were another flattering color for many a star.
Elizabeth Moss of the television series ‘Mad Men’ wore a strapless dark green tight fitting gown that was gathered at the chest and complimented her dark blond locks. Catherine Zeta -Jones was the Belle of the ball in a strapless dark green embroidered full gown that fell in layers. We were glad to see Michael Douglas looking great accompanying her. Mila Kunis of ‘Black Swan’ fame, wore a dark green one shouldered Vera Wang dress with a bow on the sleeve and draped down to reveal an open back. Dark haired beauty, Angelina Jolie, looked gorgeous in a sapphire green sparkling gown with long sleeves and high neckline.
The blacks and dark blues were also sporting the Red Carpet throughout the evening.
Eva Longoria wore a Zac Posen simple yet elegant black V neck gown topped off with a black belt to show her lovely figure. Jane Lynch who has rose to stardom on the television show ‘Glee’, was able to show off her dynamic personality in a black gown with a rounded neckline and the dress appeared to have shimmering diamond feathers at the bottom. ’30 Rock’ star, Jane Krakowski, picked the perfect elegant blue gown by Badgley Mischka to bring out her vivacious beauty and she resembled a Greek Goddess. The very hot Christina Aguilera hit the Red Carpet in a strapless black and white lace gown with a big flare at the bottom and a black belt cinching her waist. She was attractive with bold red lips and red nails. The very talented Tina Fey picked a fitting gown by L’Wren Scott. It was a dark bluish black velvet V neck with ruffled sleeves. Halle Berry got many rave reviews for her smart look. She wore a spaghetti strap corset top leading into a black short skirt with a longer lace black veil with a train and the dress was designed by Nina Ricci and perfectly accessorized with a thick diamond bracelet on each wrist. Red haired beauty Amy Adams wore a Marchesa dark blue strapless gown which flared at the waist and had a ruffle top sleeve.
There were a few metallics befitting those that wore them. Anne Hathaway looked elegant in a open backed Armani metallic gown with long sleeves and beautiful sparkling yellow earrings. Another stunning beauty was Olivia Wilde of the acclaimed television series ‘House’. She was a presenter in a dazzling metallic fairy princess dress with a big hoop bottom and gold heels.
January Jones of ‘Mad Men’ was exquisite in a red Versace V neck peek-a-boo dress that was lined with fringe at the bottom. The sexy and enticing Sofia Vergara of the hit television series ‘Modern Family’ was proud of her hourglass figure in the Vera Wang red dress with a black belt and corset-like back.
Of course we cannot forget the men of the evening and one of the favorite designers were Dolce and Gabanna. Christian Bale looked great in one of their suits with a black tux lapel jacket, black tie and black shirt. Heartthrob Justin Bieber finished off his shiny D&G suit with dressy sneakers. Robert Downey Jr. picked a gray Prada suit giving it a bit of pizazz with a red tie. Jake Gyllenhaal went simple but refined in a Burberry suit.
The fashion talk of the evening was Helena Bonham Carter who made a statement in a strapless colorful Vivienne Westwood dress adorned with black lace. Her long black curls and teased hair added to the outfit along with two different color shoes.
As all the winners now place their Golden Globes on the shelf, they have an evening of glamour and glitz to remember and we have a set of fashions to talk about for many months to come.
