The Many Looks of Mara Hoffman

The Many Looks of Mara Hoffman By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

At the Fall/Winter 2011 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City in September of last year, a New York based designer known as Mara Hoffman took to the stage with her own uniqueness previewed in geometric shapes and prints. Her creative sense of style captured the attention of many curious onlookers.

Mara graduated from Parsons School of Design and studied at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London. Her first ready-to-wear collection was launched in 2000.

Mara is fortunate enough to be able to travel the world which provides her with the inspiration to create her new collections year after year.

This past Fall/Winter 2011 Collection swept us back to a more medieval yet fanciful time. A strapless gown with prints in blacks and browns was accompanied by a Middle Eastern headdress.

Shapes in black, blue, pink and white hypnotize in a silky and chic tunic over black pants. Even heavy wool sweaters have a hint of symmetry. A simple black dress is made sexy and stunning with a very low cut neckline and another with provocative side slits.

Mara has a talent for making even the most elementary of outfits come alive with beauty and finesse. This is evident in her Spring 2011 Collection.

Once again, the geometric shapes make the clothes. A strapless bodice transformed in triangles and blocks is attached to a royal blue ankle length skirt.

Bright patterns in blues, greens, pinks and yellows have a casual appeal in a sort of one-shoulder halter mini dress.

Blue and black make the perfect combination of colors for casual or formal wear. A white macrame dress can easily pass as a bathing suit coverup but maintain a powerful message as an afternoon shift. A tie dye light fabric dress has a relaxing appeal with spaghetti straps and a low cut bodice.

Fringe and wool can be paired with cotton leggings in a fun manner.

With Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim around the corner set to take the stage in July in Miami Beach, we can’t wait to see what Mara Hoffman will have to offer her audience. Her Resort Swim 2011 and Resort Swim Runway 2011 were out of this world.

Her shapes took on a whole new meaning with the skinny and tiny bikini. Vivid colors in peacock hues looked perfectly divine on the runway models.

All of Hoffman’s swimsuits have a way of turning heads with their suggestive style.

Mara Hoffman is known for her original silk prints which keep her fans always coming back for more. All of her superb fashions can be purchased online or at a store in any of the major cities across the United States.
