The Month of May Empowers Women in Amazing Ways
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer
The year 2018 will surely be remembered as “The Year” of Women’s Empowerment. To gain momentum in society today, the topic must be highlighted on all available social media platforms, this year and in the years to come.
On May 8, 2018, the David Lynch Foundation is proud to announce, in keeping with tradition, it is hosting its 2nd Annual ‘Women of Vision’ event at 538 Park Avenue in New York City. The proceeds raised from the luncheon will go to benefit women and children survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
There is plenty of successful history behind the David Lynch Foundation. It was started in 2005 for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace to safeguard that children across the globe be given the opportunity to gain the ability to practice meditation, should they explore the option. David Lynch himself is a huge advocate for Transcendental Meditation, having practiced it daily since 1973 with definitive results. Today, his foundation actively teaches this type of meditation to adults and children in countries everywhere. The practice has been proven to reduce acute and chronic stress and stress-related disorders, decrease anxiety and depression and help individuals overcome their addictions. TM develops the brain, increases creativity and sharpens focus which all result in a state of ‘restful alertness.’ This all, in turn, improves overall health, cognitive function and behavior. As a direct result, the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense have both provided nearly $30 million in grants for further research on the benefits of transcendental meditation for heart health and post-traumatic stress disorder. This is key in assisting veterans with PTSD and their families, those depressed to the point of suicide and homeless adults.
The Eco-Conscious jewelry and accessories brand, ALEX AND ANI, is the presenting sponsor of this event. The brand is committed to furthering the David Lynch Foundation’s mission through its ‘MEDITATING EYE’ collection which has been co-designed by David Lynch. For each piece sold, 20% of the purchase price is contributed to the Foundation.
The 2nd Annual Women of Vision Benefit will honor 2 outstanding fashion icons with Humanitarian Awards for their contributions to the fashion industry and their colossal support for women in need.
