The Verdict is In

The Verdict is In By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

The Caylee Anthony ordeal has come to an end with an unexpected and shocking outcome in the most publicized trial of the year. After deliberating for over 10 hours, jurors found Casey Anthony ‘Not Guilty’ in the first degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. That begs us to question, “If Casey didn’t do it, who did and will the real murderer ever be found and put to justice?” We may never know and the jury has declined to speak to the media as well as have their names released.

Casey Anthony was convicted of four misdemeanor counts of providing false information to law enforcement officers. The punishment is far lighter than the possible death penalty that she faced if she had been convicted and sentenced for first-degree murder and the other serious accusations. Casey faces a possible year in jail for each of the charges. Some analysts seem to think that she will be freed with the three years that she has spent in jail counting as part of her sentence.

The facts seem to be sketchy at best. Did the little girl drown in the Anthony’s pool thus creating panic by Casey and her father, George and they then covered up the death?

Did Casey use chloroform back in 2008 to render her daughter unconscious and then duct-tape her mouth and nose to suffocate her, put the body in the trunk of her car and then dispose of it?

Did a nanny kidnap the child and this was the last that anyone ever saw of tiny Caylee?

Casey Anthony had access to all the items of evidence and there is no doubt that she partied incessantly in the month following Caylee’s death. Is that normal behavior when your child has been missing?

The trial was full of emotion. It was difficult for Cindy and George Anthony, Casey’s parents, to testify at times without breaking out in tears.

Factors contributing to the acquittal were most likely lack of a cause of death, lengthy trial and possibility of accidental death. There was also a lack of direct evidence, including any incriminating DNA found on tape attached to the little girl’s skull.

With the trial behind them now, the Anthony family will begin to rebuild their lives as best they can. Little Caylee and her big eyes and beautiful smile will continue to live on in their memory.

But we will always wonder, “Who really did it?”
