It’s no wonder that January 1st remains low-key the day after a night of celebration that lingered into the early morning hours. Horns, hats and merriment crowded streets, restaurants, homes and other locales.

December 31st signifies ‘Out With The Old, In With The New’. Hundreds upon millions of anxious revelers await the birth of a new year. This is the one time of year that hatred and injustice are forgotten and friendship and closeness are the major emotions of the evening.

New Year’s Eve is celebrated ’round the world’.  The difference in time zones creates an endless stream of parties but the ending to the evening is most always the same, an incredible culmination of class and elegance and romance. One of the most memorable New Years’ Eve celebrations to take place on 12/31/2014 was in one of the most inspirational cities in the world, Barcelona.

Over 70,000 people were witness to what was known as the ‘Being of the Millennium‘ Show, equally unforgettable and innovative. The show was comprised of one hundred actors and artists specializing in vertical shows and through their creativity, combined stage and visual arts, live music, percussion, water, fire and pyrotechnics, which only served to confirm that the Catalan capital is one of the most creative and unprecedented international stages to ring in the New Year. The outdoors provided the setting for this macro-show by the Catalan theatre company La Fura dels Baus.

La Fura dels Baus is known round the world for their imaginative and large non-conventional shows with mechanical structures, music, movement, fire, the inclusion of new technologies and enchanting interaction with the audience. In the New Year celebration in Barcelona, La Fura brought the Being of the Millennium back to life. This is a spectacular iron sculpture with a human shape, more than 15 m high, which represents the spirit of the city.

The New Year came in among live music and percussions, which gave way to the building of a traditional human tower (castellers) by one of the city colles (groups). There were also fireworks in this show that combined tradition and the avant-garde, resulting in a display that thrilled the audience one more year and which has become an international must on many bucket lists for New Year’s Eve, at least once in a lifetime.  The performers climbed up the inside of the towering metal structure, creating the heartbeat that made the ‘Being of the Millennium‘ come alive just in time to greet 2015 for the very first time.

Thousands of people who traveled from near and far to the foot of the acclaimed Magic Fountain in Montjuic were able to interact with the unique event that positions Barcelona as of the leaders in creativity and inventive originality.
