ALMOST TIME TO REVEAL THE ‘FGI RISING STAR’ AWARD
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanWe can feel the warmth of fashion in the air. The Fashion Group International has revealed the finalists for this year’s FGI Rising Star Award. This is the time to recognize and honor the best of the best in accessories, beauty corporate, beauty entrepreneur, home and interior design, fine jewelry, men and women’s apparel and retail. The list is quite impressive.
One of the nominees has made quite a name for himself as a regular at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York showing off his latest seasonal collection. Brandon Sun, a Parsons School of Design graduate with tons of potential, launched his own signature collection of luxury fur accessories in February of 2011 and his ready-to-wear clothing could not be any more chic. He is up for an award for Women’s Ready-to-Wear. It seems as if 2012 was his year to shine.
Tim Coppens is up for the Men’s Wear Award. Working under Ralph Lauren from 2008 to 2011 afforded him the ability to expand his design knowledge and branch out on his own and he was overwhelmingly accepted immediately. His success has won him numerous awards and his clothing is meant to be contemporary yet edgy.

The FGI Rising Star Award ceremony draws some of the top names in the industry and they will be arriving to take part in the celebration. A long time star himself, Ralph Rucci, who has his own plaque on the “Fashion Walk of Fame” in the garment district in the heart of New York City, will be the keynote speaker.
The prestigious presenters include the highly recognized and regarded designer, Derek Lam, Saks executive Terron Schaefer, the very distinguished journalist and editor-in-chief of Allure Magazine, Linda Wells and Mickey Boardman of the trendy PAPER Magazine.
The Karen Harvey Consulting Group is one of the altruistic sponsors of the Rising Star Awards and this year will mark the inception of the Karen Harvey Business Innovator Award. This award will go to the emerging industry leader for outstanding achievement in groundbreaking business innovation in fashion, retail or beauty.
One of the most highly rated restaurants in New York City will be hosting the event, Cipriani 42nd Street. The 16th Annual Rising Star Awards are set to take place on Thursday, January 24, 2013 beginning at 11:15 a.m. EST.
Some of the greatest names in fashion and retail will sponsor the award ceremony such as bebe, InStyle, marie claire, MAC, Saks Fifth Avenue, Estee Lauder and many more.
This is just one more way that the multiple faces of fashion encompass our lives in such a rewarding way. The Fashion Group Foundation reaches out to the world to promote educational programs devoted to fashion and the study of fashion related business through the creation and awarding of scholarships, establishment of internship programs and provision of career counseling services.
We will be eagerly awaiting the names of the final winners and good luck to all the nominees.
