THE 2013 PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS
By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photographer: George Whylie Videographer: Maxine NolanThe 2013 People’s Choice Awards kicks off a stream of award ceremonies and took place on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. This event means much to us as the results are based on votes by the general public. This year, fans cast a record-breaking 475+ million votes. The dazzling award that goes to each of the winners is customized by Waterford who is the official designer of the trophies. Waterford artisans in Ireland hand cut each crystal used for the trophies with sparkling precision and detail.
A slew of stars walked the Red Carpet as they flocked into the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles to support fellow actors and join in the celebration and gaiety. Many of the beloved designers of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week outfitted a multitude of celebrities giving them the astonishing looks that caught the camera’s eye and stole the show. Dresses of all lengths, tailored tuxedos, diamonds and glitter and hour-glass gowns of the moment were all part of an exciting evening.
Naomi Watts was adorned in an embellished gold and black halter gown from Alexander McQueen’s Resort 2013 Collection.
Taking yet again another award, the tantalizing Taylor Swift was stunningly seen in a sophisticated white gown with plunging neckline courtesy of Ralph Lauren.
Recognized the world over for her beauty, Jennifer Lawrence was complimented by an embellished black Valentino Fall 2012 Couture long sleeve dress with a touch of silver to give it a burst of glamour.
Raging red befitted ‘Glee’ star Lea Michele in an Elle Saab lace short dress. It was hot, hot, hot!
One of the big winners of the evening, Sandra Bullock, looked smart and stylish in a Vera Wang dress with corset top and pencil skirt accessorized with an Amrapall bracelet and pink Jimmy Choo Anouk pumps. Cut-out color made Emma Watson unique yet a stand-out star in appearance.
Critics are still undecided about jubilant Jennifer Anniston’s little black leather dress by Christian Dior with ruffled skirt finished by Tom Ford ankle strap heels.
Katy Perry looked more subdued on this special evening in her long-sleeved Valentino Fall 2012 black dress with design.
Our lovely hostess of the evening was Kaley Cuoco and although she had various wardrobe changes throughout the evening, she walked the Red Carpet in an innocently beautiful pale pink v-neckline Christian Siriano Spring 2013 dress.
It seemed as if simple yet bold color made a strong statement on this night of honor. Badgley Mischka put their spellbinding touch upon Regina King in one of their strapless white with black lace trim dresses.
Sparkle and shine was Rumer Willis’ mission in an Alice + Olivia Fall 2012 greatly embellished gown of glory.
“The Hunger Games” won out over the course of the evening with five awards including ‘Best Movie’ and Jennifer Lawrence took home ‘Favorite Movie Actress‘. Jennifer is starting out the year with success as she is also nominated for an Oscar for her role in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’.
Katy Perry was thrilled to be another top winner of the evening grasping four awards and giving her a total People’s Choice award count of twelve. This year brought her the honor of ‘Favorite Female Artist’.
Ellen DeGeneres accomplished quite a feat with her 2013 win of ‘Favorite Daytime TV Host’. She now ties with Julia Roberts for the most awards in People’s Choice history, amassing a total of 13 trophies.
‘The Big Bang Theory’ is the all-time favorite network TV comedy. Robert Downey Jr. won ‘Favorite Movie Actor‘ and ‘Favorite Superhero’, Maroon 5 walked away with ‘Favorite Band’ award and Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston won ‘Favorite Comedic Movie Actor and Actress’.
There were outstanding performances over the course of the night by Alicia Keys, Jason Aldean and Christina Aguilera, another winner of the evening with the title of ‘People’s Voice’.
This year marked a new addition to the list of award categories as Sandra Bullock walked away with the first-ever ‘Favorite Humanitarian’ Award. She was recognized for her altruistic philanthropic efforts, namely her ongoing commitment for the Warren Easton High School in New Orleans.
It was an evening of stars, shared success, shining crystals and a celebration of the best of the entertainment industry’s dedication to creativity for the sake of the American public.
