Transition in Leadership in Government – Smooth and Seamless …PM Golding
October 21, 2011
Prime Minister Bruce Golding says the transition in leadership in the Government to Prime Minister designate, Andrew Holness is the most smooth and unified the country has ever seen.

He was speaking this morning (Oct. 21) at Jamaica House where he met with members of the Consular Corps of Jamaica to express appreciation for their tremendous level of assistance and support to Jamaica and the Government.

“We look across the world and we give thanks because while we have not been able to overcome all our problems, we have fared perhaps much better than some would have thought at the onset of the global recession. Your support means a lot to us in development areas in trying to meet the immediate challenges of the fiscal difficulties we face,” the Prime Minister said.

He added that the co-operation which the Government has enjoyed over the past four years would have been impossible without the excellent support from the bilateral and multilateral partners who have worked with the Government during the challenging times.

“We have pursued over the years a foreign policy of which we are very proud. We are a small nation and we are so dependent in many respects and yet we have pursued over time, a foreign policy that is rooted in certain fundamental principles from which we have never wavered and I am sure that approach will be continued in the future.”

Mr Golding said the Government has great respect for the views of the Diplomats who have shown mutual respect. He urged and encouraged the Diplomats to continue working with Jamaica.

The Prime Minister designate, Andrew Holness, used the occasion to assure the Diplomats that Jamaica will continue the good relations with their countries which will be deepened and reinforced. He added that the Government is thankful for the support at the multilateral, bilateral and regional levels and hopes to develop new partnerships and consolidate existing ones.

< Several diplomats expressed their individual countries' appreciation to Mr. Golding and the government. In expressing her country's appreciation, Trinidad and Tobago's High Commissioner to Jamaica, Dr Iva Gloudon said that from a regional perspective, the transition in leadership in the Government is tremendous which she hopes will be an example to other countries in the region. She expressed best wishes for PM Golding's future endeavours and assured Mr Holness of the continued co-operation. -30-
