Zang Toi – Haute Couture

Zang Toi – Haute Couture By Hope Wilkos, Blogger

Sunday evening, February 13th, ended on an extremely successful note at IMG/Mercedes-Benz Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week.

Zang Toi, a talented Malaysian born designer, gave us one of the most elegant and awe-inspiring collections of the week.

Opening the show, the designs were traditional tailored suits, sheaths and coats. The coats were edgy trimmed in fur. Browns, grays and blacks dominated the runway as the prominent colors for the season. Outerwear consisted of knee-length and floor-length capes. Belted jackets were refined and polished over turtlenecks and pants.

Minimal yet sublime was the important and yielding message of the first half of the show.

The commonality of the models was the unique beehive bun which each displayed as they hit the runway.

A simple black strapless dress was made special with splashes of sequins.

As the show progressed to evening wear, the Haute Couture look went a long way. What began as simple was now intricate and detailed. Beaded neck and shoulder jewelry were a crucial accessory to complete the total look.

A gorgeous dazzling black and blue neckpiece was a superb match for an hourglass floor length black gown finished off with a fur stole.

Green paired with black seemed to be the most popular color combination. The one and only male model donned a green shirt and tie with a tuxedo-like black jacket and pants. A full-length cocktail jacket with balloon sleeves was simply magnificent. Another beauty was the black velvet pants and shear chiffon ruffled top. Gold was rich and cultured as the color of a gown with intricate details. Dresses had a hint of the flapper influence and a model was covered with fur to keep her shoulders warm.

As we got closer to the finale of the show, the gowns were even more lovely and cultured than the previous. The male model took to the runway in a velvet suit with a yellow silk shirt and detailed black stitching on the chest and back.

The final dress of the evening was worn by none other than Jill Zarin of the ‘Real Housewives of New York City.’ Jill was blushing and feeling elegant in a black strapless gown adorned with diamonds and glitter and carrying a price tag of $30,000.

This winning collection is for the refined woman who wants to feel like a princess and talented Zang Toi has certainly accomplished this feat.
