A United States Victory

A United States Victory By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

It has been confirmed by President Obama that the mastermind behind the September 11th attacks, Osama Bin Laden, has been killed by U.S. Forces and his body buried at sea.

This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the worst attack on United States soil which killed over 3000 people. That day, communities came together and our country became united in an effort to let the world know that we will not falter and will not be defeated. Bin Laden’s death yesterday marks a significant achievement on the war on terrorism and the effort to dismantle Al Queda.

The President’s top priority has been to find and get Osama Bin Laden as a resolve to protect our great nation. Last August, President Obama was given a lead on Bin Laden that the leader was hiding in a compound in the city of Islamabad in Pakistan. After careful investigation and planning, Obama authorized this important mission last week. The U.S. Operation was to go in, carefully avoiding civilian casualties, and take Osama Bin Laden. No other countries were told about this mission and no other countries took part. A small team of Americans tracked Bin Laden’s courier to the compound and 4 American helicopters swooped down on the compound. Forces battled with Osama and he did not go without resistance but was finally shot in the head and taken by force. His body has already been laid to rest out at sea.

This achievement is historic for Pakistan and the United States. We will continue fighting to defeat the Taliban and Al Queda against the war on terrorism.

Crowds gathered and cheered outside the White House as the President addressed the nation after 11:00 PM on Sunday evening, May 1st. In New York City crowds gathered in Times Square and most significantly down at Ground Zero there were thousands of people waving American flags and chanting the national anthem.

As President Obama stated, “We will be true to our values. Justice has finally been done”.
