Christian Siriano – Fall/Winter 2011 By Hope Wilkos, Blogger

What better way to open IMG/Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week than with the provocative Fall/Winter 2011 Collection of Christian Siriano, a veteran of Bravo’s hit program Project Runway. Siriano has designed fashions for well-known celebrities such as Heidi Klum, Kat DeLuna and Mena Suvari.
His showing opened with the ever so popular black trench coat. All eyes focused on the heavy outerwear paired with a light, flowing shear long skirt revealing a bit of leg. Next came the tuxedo jacket gaining rapid popularity these days and another spin on the look paired with the shear long skirt. Platforms were chunky and not the obvious choice to finish the look but, nonetheless, interesting.

The message was strong on mixing fabrics for an aesthetic appeal to Christian’s followers. Leather and wool teamed with mesh and sequins sums up the many fabrics to watch for this Fall/Winter.
Strong chic in simple grey turtlenecks and flowing dress pants with skinny belts is great for day and feminine chic in draped dresses and one shouldered intricate pieces carved out the night.
Feathers and sequins were heavy hitters for the evening wear. Models walked the runway like goddesses in draped dresses with v necks and low slung necklines. Khaki green, rose pink and a combination of black and green rounded out the color scheme.

The final pieces in the show were large and theatrical with long gowns shaped by what could only be described as very intricate ruffles. Simple and straight quickly went to full and flouncy.

Christian Siriano’s talent and creativity received a great reception and this collection is a continuation of his many capabilities.
