Gliding Down The Runway with Jill Stuart, By Hope Wilkos, The South Florida Blogger.
There is no other designer that can do more with the subtle colors of black, white and gray than Jill Stuart. Her Spring/Summer 2011 Collection is stunning and an excellent representation of the Jill Stuart label.
Stuart started in the design business at a very young age. At 15 years old, she sold her first collection of silver and leather chokers and suede fringe hobos to Bloomingdales. At the time she was attending Manhattan’s Dalton School. She went on to attend a design college.
The true Jill Stuart Collection began in 1993. Many remember the unmatched success of the cocktail mini dress and the plaid kilt skirt. She has helped to launch many an unknown such as Trish Goff into a rising fashion model. Lindsay Lohan was the first non-model celebrity used for the Stuart campaign in 2007.
Undoubtedly the brand does more business in Asia, close to $100 million with sales topping only $30 million annually in the United States. The flagship store is located in trendy Soho which is fitting for this New York native.
In 2007, Stuart launched Jill, a line exclusive to Japanese and Korean markets. This was followed by a lower priced collection of dresses under the name Jill Jill Stuart in 2010 and available at stores such as Macy’s and Bloomingdales.
The Spring/Summer 2011 show held in September 2010 kicked off with silky black and white shown in various styles with the same theme; white belted dresses with a touch of black at the collar, wrists and hem and a black silhouette of shadows marching along at the bottom of the dress.
The dress went from pencil straight to the same concept on a flouncy knee-length dress with a type of clown collar but it certainly complimented the dress. The pattern was shown in various forms and the shirts and blouses were paired with Valere pants or short skirts.

Skin tight black pants had tremendous appeal with a smart looking white and black top.
Khaki walking shorts looked super for an afternoon on the town and turned dressy with a gray and khaki lynette jacket.
One model could have stepped right out of a James Bond scene with her form fitting shiny gold bronze pants, black belt and black Hanne sweater.
A tier of ruffles on a very feminine dress was finished with a pair of ankle boots.
The formal attire was polished and ornate. A white halter dress with sheer lines throughout the entire dress was tied at the waist with a thin black sash and wrapped at the neckline with black trim. The hem was a small ruffle trailing around the entire length of the dress.
A short sheath in off-white and adorned with an intricate design could be the perfect attire for a spring gala.
Rather than having accessories that might take away from the simplicity and elegance of the collection, each model complimented the clothing with pale dewy skin and bright red lips. It is possible that the makeup was straight from Jill Stuart’s Lip Jewel Cosmetic Line sold exclusively in Asia. The look was a befitting contrast to the clothes.
