JON’S SLEEP OUT AND CALYPSO CARES MAKE A DIFFERENCE

JON’S SLEEP OUT AND CALYPSO CARES MAKE A DIFFERENCE

By:  Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger

Isn’t life sometimes about giving back?  Being thankful for what we have and bringing happiness to those who have not?

There is one business professional who is most passionate about sharing the goodness of life, and in doing so, he is creating a sense of awareness about homelessness and hopefully making a difference in others’ lives who are less fortunate and headed down the wrong path in life.

Jon Sahn, CAP® is a family man who transplanted himself and his family from New York City to Boca Raton, Florida in 1998.  Jon became very successful in the financial industry in 1996.  His expertise focused on helping individuals and business owners protect their wealth.  It was like a door opening into a whole new world for Jon and he chose to take it one step further.  Over the past few years, he has concentrated on long term support and success of his community and charitable organizations.  He identifies social problems and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create and manage a venture to achieve a desired social change.

Jon connects with supporters along the way and from his passion has come Ascendant Planned Giving Inc., an organization helping clients on a national scale to invest in their own values, communities and societies for maximum impact.  The issues range from hunger and nutrition to homelessness and environmental issues.  Sometimes it is all in the approach that you take.  Ascendant Planned Giving Inc. stands by the absolute highest values in society today; Family, Love, Community, Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration, Commitment and Professionalism.

This coming Thursday, November 21, 2013, Jon Sahn will be standing his ground  and keeping his commitment for a cause he truly believes in.  He will be sleeping out on the streets so that homeless youth won’t have to.  Everyone deserves that second chance in life and this is only a beginning.  Jon’s ‘Sleep Out’ will take place to raise funds for Covenant House.  This non-profit organization  cares for over 50,000 at-risk and homeless kids in their journey from the streets to safety and finally to independence.

In 21 cities across the United States, our young lose their lives to the streets in staggering numbers.  Covenant House gives them a glimmer of hope by following five basic principles: Immediacy, Sanctuary, Value Communication, Structure and Choice.

Not only is Jon taking a stand and accepting the challenge, but one of the largest resort-wear boutiques that has become an international lifestyle brand is also entering this arena.  From November 15 – November 17th, 2013, Calypso St. Barth is encouraging customers to take part in the ‘Calypso Cares’ Campaign. It is simple, fun and benefits the Covenant House.  Bring in a gently used sweater and get 20% off a new sweater at the chic Calypso St. Barth boutique of your choice.  In turn, the company will donate what they receive over the three day period to the cause, Covenant House and homelessness.

As every boutique will be participating in the Calypso Cares campaign, select boutiques across the nation will be hosting an event chaired by local tastemaker. Each host will bring their personal sense of style and fashion into the store while hosting a fabulous bash, all in support of the Covenant House. The tastemakers include Mandy Kellogg Rye of Atlanta’s Waiting on Martha and Paris Rouzati of Sweet Lemon Media – Atlanta, Erin Gates, founder of Erin Gates Design and Elements of Style – BostonKendi Skeen of Kendi Everyday – DallasKristin Clark of Living in Color Print – Miami, Mary Seng of Happily Grey – Nashville, Devon Dyer of Devon Rachel – Los Angeles, and Ashley Breckel of The Style Umbrella – Seattle.

Calypso St. Barth is honored to participate in Covenant House’s vision to protect and safeguard all young mothers, and their children. By donating not just sweaters, but time, as well as spreading awareness, Calypso St. Barth directly contributes to the change Covenant House hopes to see: a secure future for all.

Darkness will fall on November 21st and it may not be easy but Jon Sahn is willing to take on the challenge for a cause he truly believes in and knows that help is on the way for those that need it the most.  These ‘Sleep Outs’ take place all over the country to raise much needed funds in order to bring about change.

It is the start to more optimistic beginnings for our future generation, our young that will take us into the next century.  There are many avenues for each and every one of us to travel down and begin to make a difference in a homeless child’s life. Think about how you can take that step just like Jon Sahn and Calypso Cares has.
