Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2013 brought us so many memorable designer shows this season but one in particular stands out in my mind as being fun and fantastic!  ‘Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show’ was a fun-filled flavorful fashion show that moms and all types of women could relate to.

Held on Monday, September 10, 2012, this extravaganza took place at The Stage in Lincoln Center in New York City.  As guests entered and found their seats, the beat was rocking to the sounds of a pint-sized DJ who knew how to make music magical.

Perhaps the best theme to describe the event was “Moms on a Mission”.  Ordinary women who play a pivotal role in society every day from being a stay at home mom to philanthropists to entrepreneurs to company CEO’s.  The ladies that made it all happen and worked tirelessly behind the scenes and out on the runway were Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein.  Even a single dad wasn’t afraid to strut his stuff on the runway.  Model moms came in all shapes and all sizes.

It wasn’t just about the grown-ups though.  Kids from babies to elementary schoolers and older showed the audience what it means to be ‘in vogue’.  Some stuck tight to their moms and others posed and moved to the beat with no fear of the bright lights of the cameras.

The runway was lit up with the energy of all the models and clothing was provided by Ralph Lauren, Rent the Runway and Bloomingdales supplying a variety of outfits from Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, Rachel Roy and Catherine Malandrino.

Sparkles, sequins, the little black dress, mix and match separates, skinny jeans with vests, evening wear of silk and satin, and jeans and tees for kids along with metallic leggings and fur vests were all desirable  wardrobe ‘must-haves’.

Famous actress Lisa Rinna played a part as well as she sauntered down the runway twice in sexy form-fitting dresses perfect for a night on the town or a special occasion.  Media personality, Wendy Williams, was also thrilled to be able to take part in the show wearing every woman’s favorite, the little black dress.

It was such an animated and lively way to end the evening at Lincoln Center that night.  There was so much vitality as women kicked off their shoes, danced their way up and down the runway and high-fived it for a job well done.

Moms can do it all these days from succeeding in the workplace to taking care of the family at home and this show as a shining example that a ‘Supermom’ doesn’t have to have a routine life.
