Fashion is in full swing in the city. It was rather symbolic that as a new day dawned and the sun rose in the sky behind the Standard Hotel in the trendy Meatpacking District of New York City, a “Rising Star of the Year Winner” was preparing for the showing of her 3rd Collection inspired by the romantic city of Paris and the glamorous French Film actress, Anouk Aimee’. That winning designer happens to be Misha Nonoo.
Misha Nonoo is the young and brilliant designer who is quickly making her mark on the fashion world. Like the confident customer that she caters to, Nonoo has a discerning eye for style and is assertive of the image that she wants to portray in her designs. Reasonable price points are an advantageous selling feature that attract a multitude of customers. Having a passion for the fashion world and knowing that at some point she wanted to pursue designing and start her own business, Misha went to school for business earning her business degree. She started small with tailored jackets and by 2011, she had blossomed into an emerging designer known the world over.
Nonoo has always had a deep respect for such iconic designers such as Stella McCartney.
Misha puts all her energy and enthusiasm into each collection that she puts out. As soon as a collection is completed and shown at Fashion Week, she begins the next one using talented New York local tailors and overseeing every stage of the process all the way through to completion.
This Fall/Winter 2012 Collection was stunning, loaded with dramatic tailoring and vivid colors in blue, cranberry, purple, black and beige. A solid beige sweater was paired with a textured grayish pencil skirt. A flouncy ivory white skirt looked adorable dressed up with a black lace blouse. A black beaded cap sleeve adorned a red sweater paired with black dress pants.
One of my favorites was the cranberry tuxedo jacket, matching skinny pant and light purple patterned blouse. Since Misha is the master of tailored jackets, we saw much in the way of these great pieces. A beaded emerald green shirt was unique, dazzling and decked with a green scarf to accommodate the winter chill.
The working woman would agree that a black tuxedo jacket trimmed in velvet-like fur over a black knee-length pencil skirt and completed with burnt red suede pumps is the answer to day/night dressing.
Fur is important to Misha to get that powerful message out to the masses. A black coat trimmed in contrasting cranberry red fur is the answer to bundling up on those cold winter days. A vest of fur over a long black blouse with diamond buttons makes its own statement while a black long fur vest is striking against the backdrop of a pure purple silky long skirt.
Strike that final pose as a woman of distinction heads out for the evening in a Misha Nonoo floor length black jersey gown with a low cut v-neckline and long sleeves. A skinny glittering diamond belt served as the main accessory. This is one of Misha’s favorite pieces of the collection.
Accessories were minimal and suede pumps in a rainbow of colors made the outfits come alive as well as the black jeweled ballerina flat.
We will continue to see the evolution of style and sophistication over the seasons in the eyes of a brilliant designer, Misha Nonoo.
