Ralph Rucci Revealed

There will be a very special surprise awaiting us during Mercedes-Benz Fall 2012 Fashion Week in New York in February. A new film will make its U.S. debut, “A Quiet American: Ralph Rucci and Paris”, a documentary by CS Leigh. In order to create this iconic film, Leigh followed the revered fashion designer, Ralph Rucci, for four years. CS Leigh is a writer and filmmaker. His films include FAR FROM CHINA (2011) with Marianne Faithfull and Lambert Wilson with an original score by Suede; PROCESS (2004), starring Beatrice Dalle and Guillaume Depardieu with an original score by John Cale, which was featured as the Official Selection at the Berlin Film Festival and over 35 international film festivals, including Edinburgh, where it was nominated for the Michael Powell Award for Best British Film of the Year, and SEE YOU AT REGIS DEBRAY (2008) about a week in the life of Andreas Baader.
The film is set in Paris and explores the interdependent relationship that Rucci has with one of the fashion capitals of the world. Rucci collaborates with the great Haute Couture artisans and technicians of the city and creates designs that push the boundaries far beyond the 21st century.
Rucci designs under the brand name of Chado Ralph Rucci. Chado is symbolic for respect, tranquility and integrity. He has a flair for taking neutral colors and transforming the woman into a stunning beauty with simple yet elegant creations. He turns an artistic twist on the designs. Using top of the line fabrics, a small bit of embellishment and cut-out patterns, he molds the pieces into sculptural silhouettes.
Rucci has been a two-time CFDA nominee and in 2002, he became the first American designer since 1930 to be invited to show at Paris Haute Couture under his own name. Rucci is an artist at heart and enjoys Japanese symbolism above all else. Rucci won the top fashion award at Cooper Hewitt’s 2008 National Design Awards.
The new documentary film reveals the man behind the clothes in an intimate and captivating way. It reveals how each collection is prepared in the workrooms and goes from concept to creation, in the legendary ateliers of Paris and to their production and to the final presentation on the runway.
Viewers will be able to see interviews with those close to Rucci from The New York Times, International Herald Tribune, the creative director from Calvin Klein, Andre Leon Talley of Vogue and others. Ralph Rucci has transformed the way we look at couture today.
