The Luxurious Fall/Winter 2011 Collection of Diane Von Furstenberg By Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger
One of the most respected and successful designer names at IMG/Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week is Diane Von Furstenberg.
From her modest beginnings in the 70’s with the wrap dress, she has now branched out into jewelry, furs, shoes, scarves, sunglasses, cosmetics and even housewares. This season she was also chosen to design the IMG/Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at Lincoln Center.
On February 13th, Diane Von Furstenberg debuted her Fall/Winter 2011 collection amidst a backdrop of rotating mirrored poles. The theme and label for this season was ‘American Legends’. It appeared to be a combination of Wild West meets Spanish Bull Fighter. Wide brimmed hats and fringed suede boots were seen accessorizing many of the richly colored outfits. Gauchos with gold snaps up the sides were the feminine answer to the Wild West.

Her traditional wrap dress was transformed on the runway into an eccentric print, black and white patterned low-cut dress finished with a leather belt and black fringed boots.
Geometric shapes were a large part of the collection with vivid hues of black, red and blue as the dominating colors this season. An innovative look on the runway was the long off the shoulder black dress with red and gold stripes accentuating a sense of refinement.

Mesh netting was a provocative addition to a couple of pieces impressing the audience with the tasteful way the fabric revealed a hint of the skin.

The culmination of the show was the procession of the evening wear worn by sexy, slim models chosen to represent the line. Dazzling form-fitting gowns in sparkling red and glittering gold glided down the catwalk minimally accessorized.

Von Furstenberg’s talent was hailed with her vivid blue creations. A free flowing chiffon like gown in blue with gold teardrops throughout the fabric was simply stunning. Strong red lips were the only accessory for a sequined dark blue gown with a long slit up the leg, kimono-like sleeves and a low cut v-neck bodice. Both blue outfits were finished with contrasting blue sandals.

This Fall/Winter 2011 Collection positively captured Von Furstenberg’s audience and she received applause for another seasonal collection brilliantly done.
