UP OUT OF THE ASHES By: Hope Wilkos, Writer/Blogger Photos: Reuters

Memories will never fade of a day that shook us to our core, 9/11/01.
That day began as ordinary as the previous day. However, the ending was far from normal, a test of our tenacity. But ten years later, businesses have rebounded with fervor and conviction and the healing process has grasped us from within. Life has once again taken on a sense of normalcy. As we get closer to the anniversary of that dreadful day, 10 years later, this year will mark a time of remembrance, rejuvenation and retrospection. Our country is strong in spirit and we unite in times of crisis. It is hard to know what tomorrow will bring but through the lessons of 9/11, we have gained a sense of strength and determination that wills us to make it through each day.

Out of the rubble a new skyscraper rises. Our resilience will not be compromised. A tree-lined park is an escape from the dilemmas of everyday life lodged within the confines of the World Trade Center area.

A reflection pool gives solace to those families who lost loved ones. A reflection of life reborn out of the ashes……..

A memorial museum holds the key to brave commemoration, citizens never to be forgotten.

This year, similar to years past, the day itself will be marked by 6 moments of silence – twice to mark the times that each plane hit the towers, twice to mark the time when each tower fell, the attacks on the Pentagon and on Flight 93. The names of the victims will be recited by family members.

How quickly the years seem to glide by but courageous souls will not soon be forgotten.
